The sad faced minstrel dressed in checks and white
Wearing a pointed hat with tasseled suit;
A simple song in heavenly sunlight
With magic touch on strings of his old lute.
Darkly, he recounts the latest verses
Of armies marching ‘neath the haunted moon
“May Charlemagne be damned for his curs’ed
Role in the bloody verdict of Verdun.”
The men-at-arms will someday come here for him
But until then from town to town he’ll walk
Recounting tales town criers are ignoring
Until the day they lock him up in stocks.
The challenge today was to write a poem based on five random songs from a playlist. This didn’t become a problem until I selected Christopher Lee’s “The Bloody Verdict of Verdun.” As a result, I pretty much had to structure the whole poem around that or it wouldn’t work at all. The other songs: “Simple Song,” “The Magic Touch,” “Heavenly Sunlight,” and “Someday”.
