Edgar Bergen and the Muppets

Folks, I’ve been trying out some puppetry lately. I am very inspired especially by an episode of The Muppets, which was hosted by Edgar Bergen. Jim Henson as a big fan on Bergen (and Bergen admired Henson in turn), so watching this episode gave me the warm and fuzzies. It’s Henson’s tribute to the guy who popularized American puppeteering, and a mentor beaming with pride with what a student of the craft has accomplished. The mutual joy between the two is no more apparent than this number, which seems to be a love letter from the Henson staff. (The song they’re singing is from “Oliver!”)

Bergen would pass away one year later, but not before he got to do a cameo appearance in The Muppet Movie (which was dedicated to Bergen).
