Statler & Waldorf: It was a very good year

This video moves me in so many different ways. First, you have the two curmudgeonly muppets, Statler & Waldorf, usually heckling the people on the stage but now taking the time to reflect on their old age. It’s almost like watching two men reminisce and realizing that they will soon be gone from this world.

And then, there’s the real life sadness: neither of the original muppeteers are with us today. Jim Henson (Waldorf) died of pneumonia in 1990, and Richard Hunt (Statler) died of AIDS in 1992. They’re both greatly missed, especially today when none of the children’s shows have half the wit of the Muppet Show.
